Siglo XX

Formed in 1978 in the former Belgian mining town of Genk, Siglo XX emerged from a group of friends rehearsing together in a garage. The band’s name refers to a Bolivian mine associated with social unrest, reflecting the struggles Genk faced after the coal mines closed. Influenced by the British punk movement, Siglo XX developed a dark and emotional sound, blending cold wave, new wave, and post-punk, with expression taking precedence over technical skill.

After releasing a self-produced debut single in 1980, the band entered its most defining period with Antler Records, releasing the EPs The Art of War (1982), Answer (1983), and the mini-album Dreams of Pleasure (1983), which form the core of their discography. Often compared to Joy Division for their gloomy atmosphere, Siglo XX also stood out through subtle sonic experimentation. In 2018, the band embarked on a European tour to celebrate its 40th anniversary, concluding with farewell shows in 2021.

The Arch

The Arch a été fondé durant l’été 1986 à Breendonk, en Belgique. Quatre amis passionnés de new wave et de romantisme sombre attirent rapidement l’attention du label Body Records (Dirk Ivens), puis d’Anything But Records et de Play It Again Sam.

Sous la direction de Ludo Camberlin, producteur reconnu pour son travail avec The Neon Judgement et The Weathermen, le groupe sort son premier album, As Quiet As, en 1987. Celui-ci contient notamment Babs ist Tot, leur premier succès sur la scène underground.

Trois ans plus tard, le titre Ribdancer permet à The Arch de se faire connaître à l’international. Le groupe entame alors des tournées en Belgique, en Italie, en Espagne, en Allemagne, en Autriche, au Royaume-Uni, en France, en Pologne, aux Pays-Bas, en Hongrie et en Yougoslavie.

Leur son singulier mêle guitares puissantes, sonorités électroniques et rythmes entraînants, le tout enveloppé d’une mélancolie sombre.

The Arch se forge une solide réputation sur scène, notamment en assurant les premières parties de Peter Murphy (Bauhaus), The Mission, Clan of Xymox, The Neon Judgement, Spear of Destiny ou encore The Chameleons Vox.

Le groupe se produit également dans de nombreux festivals, parmi lesquels le WGT, W-Fest, BIM, Dark Malta, New Waves Day, NCN et M’era Luna, et figure en tête d’affiche du Sinnersday en 2021.

Après 13 sorties discographiques, The Arch annonce la sortie de son septième album studio au printemps 2023 sur le label Dryland Records.
