Sam Bettens
Multi-platinum artist Sam Bettens has just released a country-Americana album, marking a new chapter in his already rich and diverse career. Widely praised for his musicianship and infectious enthusiasm, Bettens once again proves that he belongs on the biggest stages. Only true artists stand the test of time, and while Sam already boasts an impressive body of work, this album radiates youthful freshness, combined with the maturity and unfiltered honesty of a seasoned songwriter.
Sam grew up in Antwerp—not on an idyllic Texas ranch—listening to the latest Hank Williams records. And yet, he effortlessly taps into the timeless authenticity of country music. His lyrics flow as naturally as water, and his voice carries the weight of lived experiences that audiences can instantly relate to.
Perhaps it was his 15 years spent in East Tennessee, including several years as a full-time firefighter, that allowed Sam to transition from alternative rock to Americana so naturally. Whatever the reason, his American citizenship is reflected in far more than just his passport. Whether you call it country or Americana, this album will make you want to pack your bags and hit the back roads of the rural American South.
To record the album in Nashville—the mecca of country music—Bettens enlisted Tom Bukovac, a four-time Academy of Country Music Guitarist of the Year. Tom assembled an exceptional group of musicians and shaped the songs into the radio-ready gems they deserve to be.
Sam remains one half of K’s Choice, the band he has toured the world with since the age of 19 alongside his brother. With international hits such as “Not an Addict” and “Believe,” K’s Choice quickly rose to the top of the alternative rock scene and has remained there ever since. Yet even K’s Choice has always had moments of Americana and introspective singer-songwriter melancholy. It is a pleasure to see that side of Sam taking center stage today.
This is exactly the kind of record vinyl was made for. Drop the needle, pour yourself a generous glass of whiskey, close your eyes, and let Sam Bettens’ voice do the rest.
