ALIOCHA SCHNEIDER

When asked for an image to describe his latest album, Aliocha spontaneously replies: “The sea. Exiled to Athens for six months of filming, Alyosha is far from the woman he loves. Close to the sea and the blue sky. Between takes, he composes. For the first time in French, he recounts what is going through his heart with his singular voice, where fragility mingles with elegance. It all began far from the Mediterranean, in Quebec. Aliocha’s parents left Paris for a change of scenery and adventure. Canada welcomed this family of artists. The father is a dancer, the brothers do everything. But music plays a special role. It’s like a secret channel of communication between Aliocha and his older brother Vadim. A language all their own. Vadim gave Alyosha his first records and showered him with YouTube clips. Alyosha started singing at the age of 10, and took his first guitar lessons at 13. The further he got into music, the more bored he became with school. He began writing his own songs, initially in English. “English is more instinctive for me,” explains Alyosha. “Then he met Jean Leloup, his songwriting godfather, who pushed him into the studio. His first album, Eleven Songs, was produced by Samy Osta (La Femme, Feu Chatterton). Alyosha celebrates his folk influences, from Dylan to Eliott Smith. Eleven Songs received rave reviews, earning him recognition and giving him his first live experience (Fnac Live, Les Inrocks festival, La Boule Noire). In 2020, to counter the rest forced by the pandemic, Alyosha tried a new exercise: he translated one of his songs into French. The result was C’est tout, c’est rien. His first attempt was very well received, prompting him to continue. First an EP. Then a whole album. “It’s a lot of extra work for me to write in French. But when I manage to do it, what comes out is even stronger, even more intimate,” as if in French, Alyosha opens up even more – about love, long-distance relationships, desires and dreams. Spurred on by his new producer, Canadian Marc-André Gilbert (Charlotte Cardin, Ariane Moffat), and the influences they share (Mac Miller, Rodrigo Amarante, Shuggie Otis), Aliocha tries out other sounds, other compositions: an almost Hawaiian guitar, island harmony, solar choruses… All revealed by the mix by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent (Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles)Album due autumn 2023, on the Local label.

BLEUROISE
