Editors frontman and lead singer Tom Smith embarks on his first solo venture with the track “Lights Of New York City”, out now via Play It Again Sam.

This melancholic song evokes the nostalgia of lost youth — “a song that looks back at the wonder of a bygone time,” Tom explains. Stripped-back and sincere, this debut release offers a glimpse into the musical path he is now taking, far from Editors’ grander, more expansive sound.

For this project, Tom teamed up with Irish songwriter Iain Archer, with whom he shaped the contours of this new artistic journey. The video, directed by Niall Trask, perfectly captures the intimate and contemplative atmosphere of the track.

After twenty years writing and singing for Editors (as well as two albums with Andy Burrows under the name Smith & Burrows), Tom Smith returns to his roots — songs born from an acoustic guitar or piano, delivered with simplicity and raw emotion.
