THE OFFLINE

Based in Hamburg, The Offline is the project of multi-instrumentalist and producer Felix Müller, whose music moves between cinematic hip-hop, modern jazz and vintage library-music textures. Born from an analogue camera and a desire for exploration, his sound world blends inner journeys, memories, coastal landscapes and a constant curiosity for new sonic territories.

His new album, La grande évasion (DeepMatter Records), continues this search. First imagined as a 1970s sci-fi concept record, it evolved into a more intimate odyssey where “escape” becomes something internal — travelling elsewhere through sound.

We wander through the streets of Marseille with Boulevard National, inspired by the city’s vibrant multicultural energy; we dive into The Offline’s love for analogue photography with Nikonos V, a warm, groove-driven track reminiscent of Khruangbin or Tommy Guerrero. Things get stranger with Le Trip, blending breakbeat, vintage Japanese jazz-funk and soaring saxophone improvisation. At the heart of the album lies La belle en lumière, a luminous ballad built around Rhodes and sweeping horns.

Before La grande évasion, The Offline had already gained attention with En Clair-Obscur, La couleur de la mer and Les Cigales, receiving support from BBC 6 Music, Jazz FM, Radio FIP, NTS and Rinse FM, amassing millions of streams and strong vinyl sales.

With his sensitive, cinematic approach, The Offline creates a soundtrack for travellers — those who leave, those who dream, and those who remember.
