There is first times you never forget. First time you heard Syd Matters’ captivating voice is one of them.

From his debut single “End & Start Again” in 2003, Jonathan Morali’s warm, soulful vocals and unique, almost timeless melodies revealed a truly exceptional artist. His success in France and abroad was immediate and has never wavered.

Four albums followed between 2004 and 2011, each containing a collection of unforgettable songs : “Black & White Eyes” “Obstacles” “To All of You” and “I Might Float”, which have resonated with an entire generation, accumulated nearly 200 million streams and 100,000 physical sales. Drawing as much from the writing of the 60s, the breadth and freedom of the 70s and current synthetic sounds, Syd Matters has developed a unique musical universe, uniting over the years a loyal and ever-growing audience.

On stage, accompanied by his band, Syd Matters delivers intense concerts where the singer and his musicians offer performances that are both epic and intimate. Lush and spectacular live, his music never loses its core focus and even gains in depth. For nearly ten years, Syd Matters toured France and Europe (England, Germany, Scandinavia, etc.) as well as the United States and Latin America. In 2011, the tour for his album Brother Ocean culminated in a performance at the Olympia in Paris.

Then Jonathan Morali became more discreet but remained just as prolific, writing for film, theater, radio, and television, and collaborating over time with Éric Rochant, Rémi Chayé, Thomas Litli, Patrick Mille, and Mélanie Laurent. For his work composing music for film and television, the musician gives free rein to his desires and intuitions. He works with the very substance of sounds and their underlying emotions, as if liberated from the constraints imposed by the song format.

Between 2015 and 2019, he composed the soundtrack for the remarkable video games Life Is Strange and Life Is Strange 2, a true global phenomenon. Several of Syd Matters’ tracks were featured in the game, and their success was such that it relaunched the band’s career, introducing their music to a new audience.

After too long an absence, Syd Matters will make his grand return to recording with a new album, his fifth, to be released in September 2026, on Creature Record (Fishbach, Chassol…). He will then tour France and Europe, returning to the legendary Olympia’s stage, where he will perform new songs. And others that we know by heart and haven’t forgotten.
