SAM SAUVAGE
A face, a style, a charisma with immediate likability. A deep voice, delivering a singularity both magnetic and confiding. One that slips into the ears, into intimacy or into noise. Sam Sauvage also has a generous tousled mane and wild ideas. An unstoppable performer on stage (he’s been playing a series of the label’s Pop Up shows in Paris, 4 of them already sold out), the accuracy of his interpretive intentions, his lanky gestures à la Talking Heads and his disarming naturalness already carry the day. The twenty-four-year-old belongs to that instinctive generation that doesn’t hold back its impulses. A breaker of barriers, straddling chanson, pop, electro and rock, this self-taught singer-songwriter who grew up in Boulogne-sur-Mer first plugged in a guitar as a teenager after discovering a Bob Dylan live show on YouTube. Although he listened a lot to Bashung, Sam Sauvage didn’t let himself be locked into defined influences to build his vast modern alphabet. In him: a fluid, unpretentious melodic sense, a raw, sensitive and authentic poetry, a sharpened sense of observation, a taste for others – particularly for outsiders, night owls and lost dreamers. It is this openness to people and society that shines through in Les gens qui dansent (j’adore), the first single heralding an upcoming EP in spring. Sam Sauvage there makes an inventory of different human and behavioral traits, impassive spoken word with a catchy nonchalance, robotic swing colliding with a western guitar, tenderness tinged with underlying melancholy. Selected for the next promotion of the Chantier des Francofolies de La Rochelle, Sam Sauvage is clearly determined to make a date with the future.
